Parents,
We've created eTutorUSA for a few reasons. First of all we think there is a need. A need to get students help in their studies. Now there are plenty of resources out there to get help but we believe there are many students that will be better served by tutors that are also students.
Secondly kids interact differently today. If your kids are like ours they do their homework in their room while they are chatting and texting their friends. So tutoring or being tutored using the same tools they've grown up with is a natural extension of what they're used to. All from the comfort and safety of their own rooms, yet maybe work with each other across the country, eventually across the world!
Third, we believe we can also provide a new sub-economy by helping kids earn some money by providing these services. Sort of creating a whole new market segment.
Finally we think there is an opportunity to help kids in areas that would not normally be in a position to get the academic help they need due to economic, accessiblilty or other factors. So we will incent tutors to volunteer some of their tutoring time for disadvantaged kids here in the USA but eventually all over the world. How cool would it be if this tutoring community became a worldwide movement of volunteer American students helping kids all over the globe? We think pretty cool.
Rest assured we take protecting your kids very very seriously. We have kids too! We've taken many steps to try to eliminate any abuse of the system. We want a safe environment for these kids to work in.
We save and scan every chat room transcript for abuse of our rules. That means both inappropriate language and inapprorpriate use of the chat. Our automated scanning will alert us of any infraction. Those alert events are then manually reviewed for their severity. We take into account the context of the abuse and will make a determination as to the action required.
Corrective action may range from simple warnings to removal from the community to, if deemed appropriate, reporting to law enforcement.
No personal information is ever disclosed by us. Not even email addresses. Students and tutors only know each other from their usernames. However by the nature of this community the kids will figure out ways to communicate with each other and share information that we don't make public.
